In 2018, Conexus Indiana launched the Andre B. Lacy Vanguard Award as a way to celebrate the advanced manufacturing and logistics industries in Indiana, as well as commemorate the legacy of a local icon. A philanthropist and business leader, Andre B. Lacy left a large footprint on Indiana. A third-generation leader of his family business, Lacy expanded Lacy Diversified Industries Ltd. (LDI) from a small manufacturing operation to a company with global interests in manufacturing, distribution, and logistics. Known in the community for his adventurous spirit and make-it-happen mentality, Lacy is the namesake of Butler University’s School of Business. In addition to his civic leadership and service on numerous corporate and community boards, Lacy was an early champion of Conexus Indiana. He passed away in November 2017.
The first recipient of the Andre B. Lacy Vanguard award was F. Joseph Loughrey, chairman of Hillenbrand Inc. and the Lumina Foundation and longtime advanced manufacturing and logistics champion. Loughrey was selected for the award because of his impact on Indiana’s advanced manufacturing and logistics industry as president of one of Indiana’s largest manufacturing companies and his commitment to organizations that support the growth of the advanced manufacturing and logistics industries and their workforce. Under his leadership, Cummins Inc., the Columbus, Ind.-based independent diesel engine manufacturer, grew into a Fortune 200 company with over 40,000 employees and more than $14.3 billion in sales. He retired from Cummins in 2009 after a career at the company that spanned more than 35 years, which led to his recognition as one of Indiana’s leading voices on advanced manufacturing.
Conexus Indiana seeks nominations for the 2019 Andre B. Lacy Vanguard Award now. The award will honor a man or woman who has demonstrated Lacy’s legacy as demonstrated by:
- Advocacy for civic leadership and philanthropy;
- A drive for change and pushing the status quo;
- Championship for the Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics industries.
Award nominations can be submitted here and will be accepted through April 12, 2019.
