AnalytiXIN announces new program in conjunction with Indiana universities to develop data models for Indiana manufacturers

Purdue University, Indiana University, University of Notre Dame research to help manufacturers reduce energy costs, improve sustainability

INDIANAPOLIS (July 25, 2022) – AnalytiXIN, a strategic program facilitated by the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), announced the launch of a pioneering research project focused on manufacturing data analytics.

Indiana University, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame, in collaboration with Conexus Indiana, Energy Systems Network, Emerging Manufacturing Collaboration Center (EMC2) and Amazon Web Services (AWS), will develop advanced energy and manufacturing models and analytics applications focused on reducing energy and carbon footprints. The project will help to increase factory efficiency and enhance sustainability in different manufacturing sectors using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies.

AnalytiXIN is designed to bolster the economic vitality of the state amidst the rapid rise and convergence of strategic technologies—artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics—which challenge in disruptive and imminent ways the traditional innovation landscape for advanced industries in Indiana. In addition, AnalytiXIN is driving engagement between and among Indiana’s leading corporations (founding members Elevance Health, Cummins, Eli Lilly and Company, IU Health, and OneAmerica) and its major research universities (Indiana University, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame).

“AnalytiXIN engages industry, academic and public-sector partners in meaningful ways to develop and deploy new technologies that will continue to strengthen Indiana’s advanced industries,” said Fred Cartwright, president and CEO, Conexus Indiana. “Projects like this not only leverage the capabilities of our leading research universities, but also position Indiana as a world leader in data sciences, energy and advanced manufacturing.”

As part of the manufacturing analytics project, the three universities in close collaboration with one another will collect and analyze data gathered from university testbeds and other sources through the Energy INsights program. The data will be used to develop energy analytics applications and a data lake for the broader industry, research and education communities.

Energy INsights is a first-of-its-kind statewide program developed in collaboration with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and AWS to use AI and data science to reduce energy costs and improve sustainability for Indiana manufacturers. AWS is a worldwide leader in Internet of things (IoT) services and solutions to connect and manage billions of devices. For industrial applications, AWS brings AI, ML and IoT together to make devices more intelligent.

The IEDC is allocating $5 million in grants to Indiana manufacturers to participate in Energy INsights, which was launched in March 2022. The AnalytiXIN project will build upon the deployment of Energy INsights to provide additional expertise and a forum of collaboration among manufacturers enrolled in the program.

“When we consider how to quickly and effectively increase energy efficiency in Indiana, starting with our manufacturers makes so much sense as the country’s most manufacturing-intensive state,” said Dave Roberts, executive vice president of entrepreneurship and innovation, Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “This partnership not only aligns with Secretary Chambers’ 5E strategy for growing and innovating Indiana’s economy into the future, but also expands our partnership with the state’s top-rated universities to better attract and retain innovative talent.”

Work will take place at EMC2, headquartered at the 16 Tech Innovation District, as well as at university labs and industry partner sites throughout the state.

About Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP)
The Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) was formed in 1999 to bring together the chief executives of the region’s prominent corporations, foundations and universities in a strategic and collaborative effort dedicated to Indiana’s continued prosperity and growth. To advance this mission, CICP sponsors six key talent and industry sector initiatives, AgriNovus Indiana, Ascend Indiana, BioCrossroads, Conexus Indiana, Energy Systems Network and TechPoint, each of which addresses challenges and opportunities unique to its respective area: agbiosciences, talent and workforce development, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and logistics, advanced energy technology and transportation and technology.
